"The hotel is located in Vila Viçosa and is a refuge where luxury is dressed in authenticity and every detail tells the story of the land that gives it its name. Put more bluntly, here, marble is not just a raw material: it is soul, identity, and inspiration.
It's evident in the architecture, the lighting, and even the restaurant. In fact, it was at the table that we surrendered to sophisticated Alentejo cuisine, accompanied by wines that capture the essence of the region.
All of this is part of one of the many experiences that Marmòris offers, which, on the day we visited, featured a concert by Alentejo artist Luís Trigacheiro, already with hits that everyone knows.
The gala dinner was held by the hotel pool, accompanied by a menu created by chef Hugo Bernardo, who created special meals inspired by Alentejo traditions and the music of Trigacheiro.
More than just a stay, Marmòris is a way to experience the Alentejo: intense, authentic and unforgettable.
And so it was with us."

1. Wine Tours: Discover the Secrets of Alentejo Wines
Alentejo is one of the most prestigious wine regions in Portugal, known for its full-bodied wines full of personality. A visit to a winery is a must for anyone who enjoys a good wine.
The region has several farms and estates that offer guided tours, where you can learn about the production methods, from the grape harvest to the aging in oak barrels. You also have the opportunity to participate in wine tastings and taste some of the region's best vintages.
Some of the most famous wineries include Herdade do Esporão , Adega Mayor and Cartuxa , the latter known for its iconic Pêra-Manca wine. For an even more authentic experience, some wineries offer lunches paired with regional products, making your visit unforgettable.
2. Visits to the Marble Quarries: The White Gold of Alentejo
Few people know that Alentejo, more precisely the region of Vila Viçosa, is one of the largest producers of marble in Europe. The so-called "white gold" of Alentejo has been mined for centuries and used in palaces and monuments all over the world.
A visit to the quarries is a unique opportunity to see up close how this precious stone is extracted and worked. Local companies organize guided tours that allow you to learn about the extraction process, the history of marble in the region and even admire the impressive cuts in the gigantic open-air quarries.
To complement the experience, the Marble Museum in Vila Viçosa is a must-see, where you can learn more about the tradition and impact of this industry on local culture.
3. Alentejo Gastronomy: Flavors that Tell Stories
Alentejo is a true gastronomic paradise, where each dish reflects the identity and richness of the land. Alentejo cuisine is simple but full of flavour, based on local ingredients such as olive oil, bread, aromatic herbs and pork.
Among the most emblematic dishes, the highlights are the açorda alentejana , made with bread, garlic, coriander and poached egg, the migas with pork , and the traditional lamb stew . For cheese and sausage lovers, the region offers delicacies such as Queijo de Serpa and Paio de Beja .
We cannot forget the convent sweets, such as sericaias with Elvas plums and pastos de toucinho , which will make anyone surrender to the sweetness of Alentejo. To accompany them, there is nothing better than a glass of local wine or a medronho brandy.
4. Historical Heritage: Castles, Palaces and Medieval Villages
The Alentejo is a veritable open-air museum, full of castles, churches and palaces that tell the story of Portugal. In cities such as Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you can explore iconic monuments such as the Roman Temple , the Chapel of Bones and the imposing Sé de Évora .
Other towns and cities in Alentejo also offer unique experiences:
• Monsaraz : A charming medieval village, with cobbled streets, white houses and a stunning view over Alqueva Lake.
• Marvão : One of the best preserved castles in the country, with impressive panoramic views.
• Elvas : Known for its bastioned fortifications and the Amoreira Aqueduct.
Walking through these places is like traveling back in time, where each stone has a story to tell.
5. Nature and Tranquility: Dreamy Landscapes and Starry Skies
If you’re looking to escape the fast-paced city life, the Alentejo offers the perfect escape. With endless golden plains, fields of olive and cork trees, and unforgettable sunsets, this is the perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature.
Alqueva Lake , one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, is an excellent destination for outdoor activities such as boating, canoeing and even stargazing. In fact, the Alqueva region is recognized as one of the best places in the world for astronomy, due to the absence of light pollution.
For nature tourism lovers, there are several hiking and cycling routes that cross groves and small typical villages, providing an authentic and invigorating experience.
Alentejo is a destination that combines culture, history, gastronomy and unforgettable landscapes. Whether for a weekend getaway or a longer trip, this region offers unique experiences that will stay in your memory forever. So, are you ready to explore the best of Alentejo?

The value of sustainability is directly influenced by the positive and negative impacts that the company produces with its activities, products and services. But to be sustainable, it is not enough to plant trees or save on electricity or water bills, but to have and apply a structured knowledge of the impacts that really make a difference.
The fundamental issues of sustainability are motivation and communication, as the knowledge that generates the commitment of all the people involved in our company on activities related to sustainability and the SDGs is the indispensable piece to make a difference. It's the difference between being written down on paper and putting it into practice. And the Marmòris group wants to make that difference.
We want to focus on sustainability and have a greener image to commit to being a more sustainable company and, at the same time, improve efficiency and create a closer relationship with our customers, promoting their loyalty.
For this reason, Sintra Marmòris Palace and Sintra Marmòris Camélia decided to contribute to the concept of “Friendly Hospitality” by implementing good sustainable practices and starting to comply with the requirements established in the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle framework to obtain the seal Biosphere Certified.
The Alentejo Marmòris Hotel & Spa is certified since 2021 by the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle and year after year it has been renewing this certification and taking further steps forward in what is a long but pleasant path, to improve its sustainable practices in all its departments and with the help of all its employees.

Thos story of this group has started 3 generations ago, when television didn’t exist, and Portugal was under the Dictatorship of Salazar.
It all started with the Grandparents. Those who started the Marble business together with their sun - the Father, to whom the Mother joined. They have acquired Marble quarries in Vila Viçosa (Alentejo) and for many years that was their main family business.
For the love they nurtured for the Alentejo region, from where they reaped the fruits that led to the expansion of the business, they opened together the first unit of this group: the Alentejo Marmòris Hotel & Spa opened on the 3rd of February 2013.
With the loss of Grandfather, Mother and Father have decided to not let the family house loose its light, and transformed it into the most beautiful boutique hotel in Sintra: the Sintra Marmòris Palace opened in 2017 as a Luxury Guesthouse.
Later on, with the success of this small property, they have dedicated to the renovations of an old family building also in Sintra, and in 2022 the Sintra Camélia Marmòris was brought to life.
The Daughters, those who give continuity to the business nowadays together with their Parents, have been following the footsteps of the family, and were already working side by side with them when the opening of the Sintra Marmòris Palace and the Camelia Marmòris Palace took place.
These 3 units, all sharing the same theme of the Marble, are the result of work and dedication to the hotel business, and the art of excellent service that caracterizes so well the Portuguese people. In all them we prime for the authentic, the noble, the quality, and for the team and family spirit that so many of our guests experience and appreciate.
Welcome to the Marmòris Hotels. Each one of these houses has a Storie, a Why, a Mission. We want you to feel at home, that you appreciate the best of Portugal in your spare time, and that you take and make great memories from here.
